Australian Retirement Trust appoints next Chief Financial Officer

Published - 16 August 2024

Following an extensive search and selection process, Australian Retirement Trust (ART), one of Australia’s largest superannuation funds, has announced the appointment of Phil Fraser as its next Chief Financial Officer.

Phil has more than 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry, most recently as Chief Executive Officer of ART Life. Phil started his career as a chartered accountant and has led finance, insurance, technology and operations teams in executive roles in the United Kingdom and Australia, in organisations including Standard Life, QSuper and Great Southern Bank.

ART’s Chief Executive Officer, David Anderson said, “this is an important appointment as our Fund enters our next phase of strategic growth”.

“I’m excited to welcome Phil to Australian Retirement Trust’s executive committee. I know he will help set our Fund up for future success,” Mr Anderson said.

“In an evolving superannuation landscape, Phil is the right appointment to lead and enable our Finance & Strategy teams to reach their full potential and support great retirement outcomes for our almost 2.4 million members.

“We’ve been putting members' money to work both locally and globally, to support all of our members to retire well, and I’m confident Phil will help our Fund work towards that every day in his new role.”

The appointment follows ART’s current CFO Anthony Rose’s decision to explore other opportunities. Phil and Anthony will partner on a smooth transition through September, with Phil stepping formally into the role on 1 October.

“As Australian Retirement Trust’s inaugural Chief Financial Officer, Anthony has successfully strengthened our financial resilience, and been a valued voice at our executive table, bringing a passion for delivering great member and stakeholder outcomes,” Mr Anderson said.

“On behalf of all my colleagues, I thank Anthony for his considerable contribution to ART and wish him all the best for the future.”

In light of Phil’s new role, Matthew Finney will be appointed as Interim Chief Executive Officer of ART Life. Phil and Matt will work together to make sure we continue to deliver the valued insurance services our members need.
